rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Hi all, I have a '04 diesel zetech Galaxy. About 3 weeks ago it started to intermittently fail to lock or unlock from the remote key, this last weekend I parked it up for 2 days yesterday when I went to drive it the indicators failed to work. Also I had to unlock the drivers door to get in allother doors remained locked. Other things not working include interior lights and hazard flashers. After a bit of investigation I seem to have lost a power supply to pin 8 on connector P3 on the electronic unit. Now for the Bit where I need help....where does this wire (plain White) get its power from? and the most likely place for it to have failed. I only have the Haines manual and as far as I can see this wire is not in the diagams at all. Thanks for any help.Brian Quote
bhbobhill Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 This sounds like the usual culprit, a broken wire in the drivers door wiring loom. The door loom where it goes from the door to the vehicle body.Have fun Bob Hill Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 The power will be from the fuse box by drivers right knee. Sounds like you've blown one of the fuses. Fuse layouts are different for different model years, but it's easy enough to check them with a mulltimeter. With one side of the meter grounded both ends of the fuse should be at +12V with ignition on and engine running. However the fuse will have blown for a reason so even if you replace it and it starts working it is likely it will blow again. As Bob says it is most likely to be the wiring in the gaiters between the body and the doors or tailgate. I'd check all if I were you. Order to check:-(i) Drivers door - as this gets used every time you drive the car(ii) Tailgate - as this gets bent most(iii) Front passenger door(iv) Rear passenger doors Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks for the reply BHBOBHILL. Are you saying the power supply for the central electronic unit comes through the drivers door?Brian Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks silverbeast, I have cheked all the fuses in the passenger fuse panel all ok but no 12V at the connector that seems to supply the power for the "computer". Do you have a wiring diagram or know where I could find one?Brian Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Shorting in the door wiring will cause the control unit to draw too much current and hopefully blow the fuse before any damage is done, this can also stop other parts of the electical system working of they share a common fuse. If you check the fuse that supplies the control unit (if you haven't already) you may find it blown. If you find and replace a blown fuse and it blows again you could temporarily disconnect the drivers door wiring at the connection into the body and see if it still blows. If it doesn't your remote should hopefully operate all the other doors, providing evidence that it's the wiring in the drivers door that's at fault. Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Sorry you posted while I was writing. Look for a Ford TIS CD on ebay Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 OK on the TIS but was hoping to save the couple of days it will take to get it. Will it run on Windows 7?Brian Quote
gregers Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 make sure it says it will,as my old tis wont run on win 7. Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Just dug out the Windows '98 laptop I run mine on. Not tried on Windows 7 yet. Which module are you talking about, and where is it located? Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 I think it is called the central electronic unit and it lives as part of the fuse panel at the right end of the front panel under the dash board... above the drivers right foot.Brian Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 Have you checked the fuses in the Battery Junction Box (under the battery cover at the front. It has three fuses inside as well as the High current fusable links. I believe one of these has a feed to one of the multifunction modules Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 Yes I checked those fuses as well but none of those wires are white so there must be a junction somewhere I realy don't want to have to remove the dashboard to trace the loom back.Brian Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) There seems to be a feed from F100 (3A) in the Battery Junction Box but that says Red/Black and also feeds from the CJB - Central Junction Box (Fuse Box where module is located). It isn't clear module does what on the diagram to me. Interior lighting is from F55 (5A) in CJB Indicators and hazards seem to feed from F52 (20A) in CJB Have you had the rear washer leaking into the passenger footwell. There is a junction for earths in there (under plastic trim between seat and innser sill) that is just twisted together and has been known to corrode and cause all sorts of issues, though I thing hey are green Edited June 2, 2015 by SilverBeast Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 The only whites I have seen in wiring diagrams so far have been for heated mirrors/rear screen and tended to be outputs rather than inputs and seems to be fed from F51 (20A). If it's this it should go live if you turn on rear heated window Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 Ah leak in passeger foot well! yes thinking back to when I first got the car about 4 years ago I did have the dreded leak from the rear washer pipe join I will have a look tomorrow. There seem to be white cables around the headlight controls. Screen heaters are another of the things not working. Fingers crossed fot the joint in the passenger footwell.Brian Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 The wiring diagram uses "C" numbers for the indexes on connectors where did you get P3 from? In your first post you mention connector P3 pin 8 has the white wire. Looking at the CJB is the connector on the layer immediately under the cover with all the fuses on it. If so can you describe where it is located, ie bottom right, to right of fuse puller For all the connectors on this layer I have C6 Fuse Puller C2 C7 C5 C4 C1 C3 Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 That would be C7 then The P3 is molded on the cover......I don't think Haines gives a cross reference of the C numbers... not the best manual I have ever seen.Brian Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 2, 2015 Report Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) C7 Pin 8 shows as white and is the wire that feeds the Heated Rear Window and door mirror heaters I believe it should go live when the heated rear window switch goes live it is fed from F21 (20A) in the CJB via the K1 Rear window heater relay (also in the CJB) you should hear it click when you press the switch. It may need the engine running before it works though as I would hope the high current systems (front/rear screens) are disabled when it's off to aid starting. It also switches K251 the heated mirrors relay (if fitted) also in the CJB. I suspect both of these are on the two lower levels of the CJB. Edited June 2, 2015 by SilverBeast Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 So the big white wire at the right end of the top connector on the right below the big red wire. Quote
rusper Posted June 2, 2015 Author Report Posted June 2, 2015 Food for thought there then. will try to dig further tomorrow. Thank you for the help. I will let you know how it goes.Brian Quote
rusper Posted June 3, 2015 Author Report Posted June 3, 2015 Oops, a further look at the circuit board now makes me think that the "computer" power supply actualy should be on C7 Pin 7 not pin 8. I have not had a chance to look at the car yet.Brian Quote
rusper Posted June 3, 2015 Author Report Posted June 3, 2015 OK, looked at the car, red with black tracer. Any help finding where the power should come from would be welcome.Brian Quote
